Who is the
UK's number-one pizza designer? Which pasta chef is tops in dreaming
up mouth-watering new recipes?
Pizza is now a
staple part of the British diet so The Pizza & Pasta Association
(PAPA) has issued a challenge to find out just how creative Britain's
pizza and pasta makers really are.
Whilst the
Neapolitans may have invented the pizza and the Americans developed
new styles of pizza base, the challenge remains in putting a pizza on
someone's plate with a truly scrumptious topping that is really
more-ish!
The same goes
for pasta. The choice of tagliatelle, spaghetti, linguine or even
gnocchi is important but the ultimate arbiter of success is the skill
of the chef in combining the pasta with other ingredients to create
something really special which keeps customers coming back for more.
To find out
just who really is Britain's finest when it to pasta and pizza, PAPA
has decided to issue a challenge as part of its annual awards.
Those entering
are invited to come up with new pizza and pasta recipes that will be
judged in five regional heats (Glasgow, Birmingham, Liverpool,
Bristol and London) this autumn, with the final taking place in
London on November 2nd.
"Our aim
with these competitions is to recognise the skills of those who are
very often hidden behind the scenes in restaurants and food service
outlets but who are so critical to making a success of any pizza or
pasta business", says PAPA Director Jim Winship. "We hope
that our competition will throw some of the limelight on the
industry's hidden talent."
