Chillies
Are The New Super Fruit!
National
Chilli Week (20 - 26 November 2006) |
There's
been a lot of talk about 'super fruits' recently, with all their
health promoting benefits, but it's a little known fact that the
humble chilli is also a super fruit. Not only are they one of the
best sources of vitamin C, they are also a great source of
antioxidants, vitamin A, potassium and folic acid. So as the cold and
flu season sets in this winter, remember to dose yourself up on those
powerful immune-system boosting chillies.
Over the years
they've also been used to treat disorders such as arthritis, asthma,
constipation, poor appetite, indigestion, lethargy, tonsillitis and
toothache, and they're renowned for triggering the release of
'feel-good' endorphins, which lifts the spirit and the libido!
Nando's, those
passionate Peri-Peri sauce-makers, are running National Chilli Week
from Monday 20 November 2006 to promote the positive health and
lifestyle benefits associated with eating chillies and to encourage
people to pep up their meals with this spicy little super fruit.
If you don't
have the time to get chopping in the kitchen, you can pop down to
your nearest supermarket and pick up a Nando's Peri-Peri Sauce or one
of their Marinades, Dips or Table Sauces - all in delicious flavours
and with that trademark Peri-Peri kick. You can choose from mild to
extra hot, depending on how brave you're feeling. How hot do you dare
to go?
