Curry
Spectacular in London's East End |
Brick
Lane and Allen Gardens, E1
10th
- 24th September 2006
This
September will see the sixth Banglatown International Curry Festival
on East London's Brick Lane.
The festival
celebrates the delicious food that Banglatown has to offer and the
first day, on Sunday 10th, gives visitors and locals the opportunity
to order food from street stalls, sample new dishes and eat al-fresco
as Brick Lane is pedestrianised for the day.
Attendees can
take pleasure in watching the noise, hustle and bustle of Brick Lane,
known as the curry capital of Europe, as it turns into an open air
food court and enjoy the aromas of Indian cuisine. Over 45
restaurants will be taking part in the Banglatown International Curry
Festival and will create special menus and offers, encouraging
families to dine together over the two weeks. Some eateries will also
be welcoming guest chefs from Bangladesh, India and Pakistan for the celebrations.
As diners
spill onto the pavements, International music will be played live in
the Vibe Bar courtyard and in Allen Gardens. Street entertainment,
from children's workshops to magicians will also be present to
enthral visitors on the first Sunday.
The press day,
on Thursday 10th September, will see the 'Curry Chef of the Year
Competition' in which 10-15 local and national chefs will represent
their restaurants. Each chef will create their signature dish and
they will be judged by distinguished guests during the afternoon.
There will also be cooking demonstrations at the outside kitchen on
the corner of Brick Lane and Hanbury Street.
The launch of
the Banglatown International Curry Festival on Sunday 10th coincides
with the Brick Lane Festival and more than 60,000 visitors are
expected to attend to experience the global mix of food, music and culture.
