£1800 Cost Of Curry Filth

An award-winning Indian restaurant has been fined £1800 after it was found to be infested with mice and cockroaches.

The owners of Suruchi in Edinburgh recently admitted a "serious breach" of hygiene laws and having no pest control.

The city's sheriff court was shown pictures taken by health officers, including one of a microwave oven covered in dead cockroaches.

They found mice and cockroaches had been allowed to infest the area where food was prepared and admitted their visit turned up "just the tip of the iceberg".

Suruchi, in the Old Town, was named Patak's Best Indian Restaurant in Scotland for 1996.
