Liquid
War Has Been Declared!
|
Forget
Wembley, Hampden, Twickenham and Murrayfield - there's another England-Scotland
cocktail on the menu! Top bartenders from both sides of the border
will fly the flag for their countries as they prepare to compete in
the Liquid War cocktail competition final in Glasgow on 8th October.
Traditionally
a Scottish event, 2006 will see the first Liquid War which includes
competitors from England with regional heats taking place in London,
Bristol and Manchester. Throughout August and September, rival
line-ups will showcase England's top talent and the winners will then
go on to compete against their Scottish rivals in the final at
Glasgow's Metropolitan Bar.
Sponsored by
BOLS and Cointreau, elite teams of mixologists and flair bartenders
will take part in the event hosted by Maxxium UK's in-house
mixologists, Wayne Collins and Andy Gemmell.
Individual
mixologists will compete to create two innovative and great tasting
cocktails using Cointreau as a base ingredient and another using BOLS
liqueur. Both cocktails will be mixed with another spirit from the
Maxxium UK Portfolio and will be judged on appearance, aroma, taste
and overall creativeness.
Flair
bartenders will be judged on an individual performance, using any of
the BOLS range in the routine and final drink. Designed to showcase
their skills, they will be judged on difficulty of the routine,
smoothness and musical timing, originality and overall execution of moves.
Maxxium UK's
mixologist, Andy Gemmell, said "This year's Liquid War promises
to be bigger and better than ever. The standard of cocktails was
extremely high last year, however, the bar scene has evolved so much
in Scotland that we are now ready to challenge the rest of the UK! It
will be exciting to see patriotism and pride playing an even bigger
role than ever."
Maxxium UK's
on-trade manager, Ruth Hamilton, said "Maxxium UK continues to
provide dedicated training for bartenders, so it's fitting that we
should recognise those with exceptional skills from both sides of the border."
Winners of the
final in Glasgow will clench the coveted Liquid war trophy, which
will remain theirs until the next competition. Individual prizes will
also be awarded in each section (flair and mixology). The prize fund
stands at a total of over £5,000.
