Baul Bishwa

Baul Shafi Mondol

The Baul People were-and are-mystic minstrels living in rural Bangladesh and the West Bengal Region of India, and came to prominence in the nineteenth century, influencing the ideas and works of the great Indian poet, Rabindranath Tagore. The Bauls belong to an unorthodox devotional tradition influenced by a mixture of Hinduism, Budhism, Bengali Vasinavism and Sufi Islam, their poetry and music being devoted to the endeavour of finding man's true relationship with God.

The Group consists of 5 musicians, Mondol, Shahriar, Mukul, Bishu and Tofikul,

For those with an ear for traditional music of any origin, this Bangladeshi group is an absolute must, and we welcome them to Edinburgh with the greatest pleasure and anticipation.
