The eaterie's
opening saw Peterborough's deputy mayor, Cllr Marion Todd, tuck into
the mouth-watering cuisine, while tapping her feet as a Brazilian
singer and guitarist strummed away.
Owner Paulo
Batista (32), who launched the restaurant with girlfriend Lucia
Scepkova (20), said Peterborough was crying out for a place where
people could sample dishes from Brazil and felt Lincoln Road's fusion
of cultures would be its natural home.
Paulo also
runs Do Syta, which opened as the city's first Polish restaurant.
The
entrepreneur has been in the hospitality trade for 10 years, opening
his first restaurant in his native Portugal seven years ago and his
passion for food is palpable.
Sabor Brazil
specialises in churrascaria, or barbecue-style food. A highlight is
picanha, a traditional Brazilian cut of top side of beef.
"Sabor
means taste, and that is very much what we want people to do,"
said Mr Batista.
Although meat
is a speciality, vegetarians shouldn't feel left out, because there
are plenty of alternatives.
As well as
Brazilian musician Rinaldo, who will perform three nights a week,
Paulo has ensured people's experience is as authentic as possible by
employing a Brazilian chef.
Cllr Todd
said: "It was a wonderful evening. I would recommend it to everybody.
"It
really brings Peterborough on a par with other cities.
"We
should understand other people's cultures and food tastes. I
certainly embrace it."
