An
award-winning Elvis cabaret helped the Eden Palace Indian restaurant,
Dartford to raise £500 for the Mayor of Dartford's Charity
Appeal on Thursday 28th February.
Dean Lee Vegas, who was one of
the top three Elvis Tributes in the 2004 Elvis European
Championships, is the same age as Elvis at his 'Comeback Special',
and has attributes for which Elvis Presley is remembered at his best.
With mischievous boy-next-door appeal, wriggling his hips, the slim
young singer perfectly captured Elvis' voice and vocal range, and was
applauded throughout the show by appreciative Eden Palace diners.
The Mayor Councillor Sheila
East's main focus during her year of office is uniformed youth
organisations, and the Eden Palace chose to feature an Elvis tribute
because Elvis Presley was enthusiastic about his national service, a
fact that greatly enhanced his reputation as a star.
Supporting the Mayor on the
evening were Mrs Angela Rainey, District Commissioner for the
Dartford & District Scouts Association; and Kevin Lough,
Commanding Officer of the Crayford & Dartford Sea Cadets. The
Mayor's other charities are the Friends of Animal League (FOAL); the
Arrow Riding School; and the Alzheimers & Dementia Support Service.
As the first fund-raising event
that the Eden Palace has held, the event was an undoubted success,
and the main partner Nurul Islam thanks his loyal customers for their
generosity in purchasing all the raffle tickets. The raffle prizes
were a hamper of Kingfisher Premium Lager, an Eden Palace dinner for
2, and a bottle of Malt Whisky. The restaurant also donated a cheque
from a proportion of dinner takings towards the Mayor's Charity
Appeal, bringing the total raised to £500.
