Hi-Impact Trio Help To Raise £300 For Harlow Stroke Support Group

Three young girls in their early twenties, who form the covers group HI-IMPACT, danced and sang their way through 90 minutes of chart hits of the 70's to 2008, to help raise money for the Chairman of Harlow Council's Charity Appeal, the Harlow Stroke Support Group, on Thursday 13th March, at Spice Master Indian restaurant, Commonside Road, Harlow.

The trio - Kate, Gemma and Fliss - (who were chosen as much for their talent as for the name of the group to emphasise the life-changing effect of strokes), have appeared in concerts with Gareth Gates and Robbie Williams, on TV shows such as a Question of Sport and Swag, and at top London theatres like the Palladium and Sadler's Wells.

Hi-Impact put on two shows; for the first 45-minute show dressed in pink, black and white mini-dresses and the second 45-minute show in silver hot-pant outfits, strutting their stuff to pop hits such as 'Oh What A Night', 'Boogie Nights', 'Material Girl', 'We Are Family', 'Vogue' and 'That Don't Impress Me Much' to name just a few.

A fund-raising dinner, raffle and auction were also held. Prizes included a Spice Master dinner for two, a case of Cobra beers, a Wilkinsons voucher and a beauty voucher, a traditional doll, a decorated porcelain mug and coaster, and a boombox, as well as Taittinger Champagne. A total of £300 was raised for the Harlow Stroke Support Group.

The Chairman of Harlow Council, Councillor Mrs Lorna Spenceley, who was supported by Mrs Jean Miley of the Harlow Stroke Support Group, said that strokes can happen in an instant, and affect not only the victim, but also their immediate family and circle of friends. A mini-stroke may only have a short-lasting effect; however, some strokes can result in paralysis, which is devastating. The Harlow Stroke Support Group helps to assist families who have been affected emotionally and financially.

The charity holds an information and support group on Thursdays at Great Parndon Community Centre, Abercrombie Way, Harlow from 10am to 12am, and once a month they also hold a training session such as speech therapy and stroke prevention. They also visit sufferers in their own homes to advise and help them, as well as holding social groups and arranging trips out.
