Britain's Best Dish is back&ldots;and it's bigger than ever!

The nationwide TV cooking competition to find Britain's most delicious dish will be putting the country's keenest amateur cooks to the test again, and it's going to get seriously hot in the kitchen.

Norfolk pig farmer John Kenny won last year's series with his slow roasted belly of pork and walked away with a £10,000 cash prize, and the show's producers are now holding auditions across the country in their hunt for Britain's Best Dish 2008.

"Last year proved that this country has a winning combination of fantastic local produce and people passionate about food", said the show's series producer Tom Gould. "Whether your dish is from a recipe passed down through generations or you're pitching a modern and unusual creation - we want to hear from you".

The idea of the series - to be screened on ITV1 later this year - is to find the country's tastiest home-grown recipes.

A panel of three judges - chefs John Burton Race and Ed Baines and wine expert Jilly Goolden - will be travelling the length and breadth of the country asking people to pitch their dishes to them on camera. The amateur cooks with the most potential will then be invited to London to take part in a "cook off" live in the studio. The overall winner of the competition will be in line for the £10,000 prize.

"We're after mouth-watering recipes executed with skill and flair" said Gould. "We want as many people as possible to come forward. It will be a fun day. There'll be no cooking involved at this stage but we want everyone to bring an example of their dish, or a photo of it or something else that will make it stand out for the judges".

Anyone interested in taking part should contact bestdish@itv.com or call 09011 22 33 11. Please also tell them where you found out about this year's contest.

Calls cost 25p from a BT landline. Calls from other networks may be higher and mobiles will be considerably more. Lines close on the 7th June 2008 at midday. ITV cannot guarantee that all applicants will be called back. Terms and conditions available at itv.com/terms
