La
Parmigiana, the oldest Italian restaurant in Glasgow still in the
hands of its original owners, has regained its two AA rosettes for
culinary excellence.
Established over
30 years ago on Great Western Road by Angelo Giovanazzi, father of
present proprietors Sandro and Stefano, over the years La Parmigiana
has earned a reputation for being elegant, yet affordable and has won
a variety of culinary accolades.
Sandro Giovanazzi
said, "We're delighted to regain two AA rosettes which
signify that our culinary standards are as high as they have ever
been. A key ingredient to the success of La Parmigiana has been the
input of head chef Peppino Camilli, who continues to prepare
traditional Italian food using the best fresh British and Scottish ingredients."
La Parmigiana has
been the only Italian restaurant in Scotland to be included in the AA
Restaurant Guide, The Michelin Restaurant Guide and the Good Food
Guide. Most recently, it won The Best Italian Restaurant Award at the
inaugural Scottish Restaurant Awards 2008, launched to recognise the
creativity, outstanding customer service and top quality dining that
is on offer throughout Scotland.
This award
followed La Parmigiana being named as one of only seven Italian
restaurants and three pizza restaurants across the UK to have won
Gold Awards by the Pizza Pasta & Italian Food Association (PAPA)
in recognition of their exceptional standards.
La Parmigiana is
regularly lauded by Italian newspapers and often cited as one of the
best Italian restaurants outside Italy. So much so that, whenever an
Italian club or national football team plays in Glasgow, La
Parmigiana is invariably the first port-of-call for Italian
journalists to indulge themselves in a protracted post-match analysis
over a fine wine and a delicious meal.
