'Single Most Important Event' London Wine Fair

LIWF is for importers, merchants, producers, agents, restaurateurs, wholesalers, sommeliers, in fact everyone whose work brings them in direct contact with wine and spirits, no other event offers the same opportunity to taste, meet with suppliers and winemakers and get down to business as the LIWF. It's often been said that the London International Wine Fair is the single most important event in the international wine and spirits calendar. Just so you have some stats to hand, the number of attendees last year (2008) over the 3 days was 14,903 - which was an increase of 17% on the previous year

Below are some of the confirmed show features:

1) Masterclasses - including 'Chile - The Magic of Maule' and 'Chateau Musar - Celebrating Serge Hochar's 50 years as a Musar winemaker'.

2) Industry Briefings - one being 'Wine and the web: the business of getting social'.

3) Sommelier Wine Awards: This year LIWF is more on-trade focused than ever and for the first time ever LIWF will play host to the Sommelier Wine Awards (SWA) and the on-trade tasting lounge.

SWA is Britain's (possibly the world's) only on-trade wine competition. In its 3rd year, wines entered into SWA have to be a) available to the UK's on-trade and b) not in mainstream off-trade outlets - making it very different from other wine competitions. All sorts of on-trade establishments have been considered in the picking of the 100-strong Gold List from Michelin-starred to pubs. From start to finish this is a competition that is aimed solely at the needs of the on-trade, rather than the shopper on the High Street.

The on-trade lounge will also feature a Wine List Clinic where those working within the on-trade can have free one to one specialist consultations. Sommeliers and wine experts will be available to analyse wine lists and menus and then address how individuals can add quality and value to their wine offering. Please see the attached release for full details of the show feature.

4) Wine Faults Workshop - For the 4th year running LIWF will feature the highly informative workshop - a practical session that examines the most common faults found in wines today.
