Fair-Trade Is The Only Way To Go For Chichester Cathedral

More and more people are buying fair-trade products which are now worth over £200 million pounds a year, and last year saw 40% growth. The idea behind fair-trade products is simple and is aimed at helping disadvantaged farmers across 58 developing countries.

Farmers have the opportunity to improve their lives

A greater respect for the environment

A closer link between shoppers and producers

A stronger position for farmers in world markets

This is why the diocese of Chichester has chosen Edgcumbe Tea & Coffee Company to supply the fair-trade tea and coffee that will be served in the new Chichester Cathedral Restaurant due to open on Easter Monday, 17th April.

The General Manager of Cathedral Enterprises - Ian Doody - said "the fact that Alice Rendle at Edgcumbes was one of the pioneers in introducing high quality fair trade tea and coffee into the UK did have an effect on choosing Edgcumbes as our supplier. We are committed to supporting in any way we can the wonderful principles of Fair-trade and all that this means to the farmers and their families in the developing world. Our new Restaurant & Cafe at the Cathedral is planned to open on Easter Monday, 17th April, and we look forward to welcoming as many people as possible to enjoy the experience and to support fair-trade farmers at the same time".

Alice Rendle said, "Edgcumbes have been a family run firm for 25 years now and we have been an active supporter and supplier of the best quality fair-trade tea and coffee for nearly 10 years. We value our special relationship with Chichester Cathedral and are delighted to be supplying the new Cathedral Restaurant and wish them all the best for the future.
