British Cassis Launched

Jo Hilditch launched her exclusively British produced cassis at this year's Food and Drink Expo at the NEC, Birmingham. Jo, who farms blackcurrants, has worked closely with a neighbouring local fruit wine producer, to produce the first batch of this fresh and fruity liqueur. Jo Hilditch British Cassis is exclusive to Herefordshire - from origin to bottling.

Jo Hilditch British Cassis is like no other and is the ideal aperitif served with white wine or champagne - providing a perfect refreshing summer drink. It adds a 'zing' to puddings if added to sauces or on its own with ice cream. The rich dark colour, provided by health promoting antioxidants, and the fresh aroma make it an ideal mixer, although some people like to drink it on its own. At 13% alcohol volume it needs to be mixed with care!

The Jo Hilditch British Cassis range also includes Cassis with Rum and Cassis with Gin. Cassis with gin is a wonderfully full-bodied warming drink for those who like something fruity! Cassis with rum is delicious served as it is or over ice. There are plans to increase the fruit range next year to include 'frambroise' and 'mure' drinks, amongst others.

Jo Hilditch has run her family farm for the last 10 years where blackcurrants have been a staple crop since the 1930's when her grandfather planted one of the first plantations in Herefordshire. Her farm supplies Ribena and Pixley Berries with fruit and she is a founder member of the Blackcurrant Foundation, formed in 2005 by British growers, to raise awareness of the numerous health benefits of British blackcurrants.

Jo Hilditch British Cassis will be available from independent retailers nationwide or direct from Whittern Farms Ltd - see www.britishcassis.co.uk. It is sold in 375ml bottles in cases of 12 and costs from £7.00 + VAT.
