Restaurant Represents Manchester In The Curry Capital Of Britain 2006
A Tameside
eatery, has been put forward to represent the city in a nation wide
battle for the prestigious title of 'Curry Capital of Britain'.
Competing
against fifteen other cities, The Pearl Restaurant Bar & Lounge
is one of four Manchester based restaurants voted by the public to
represent the high standard of Asian cuisine in the city.
Over the
course of April, all four restaurants will be visited incognito by
independent judges these scores will account for 50% of the city's
overall result.
The remaining
50% will come from a written submission by the city council denoting
why Manchester should claim the title of 'curry capital'.
Established in
2000, the competition is sponsored by Kingfisher lager and previous
winners include Glasgow and Birmingham. Bradford claimed the title in 2005.
Since its
launch last summer the Pearl has grown to become one of Manchester's
premier Asian restaurants. Based in Ashton Under Lyne, the restaurant
serves a unique range of cuisine from across the Far East including
India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
In a bid to
impress the competition's organisers and as part of the run-up to the
event, the restaurant will be holding a series of charity events to
raise money for the competition's chosen charity, 'Action Against
Hunger'. Events will include curry kareoke, hand reading, round the
bill, a benefit night and a raffle.
Naheem Akhtar,

by the public to represent Manchester in the Curry Capital of
Britain. The restaurant works hard to offer a unique and varied menu
and we place great importance on our customer service. I'm glad all
our hard work is paying off and would like to thank all our loyal
customers for voting for us".
