Tameside Restaurant Represents Manchester In The Curry Capital Of Britain 2006

 

A Tameside eatery, has been put forward to represent the city in a nation wide battle for the prestigious title of 'Curry Capital of Britain'.

Competing against fifteen other cities, The Pearl Restaurant Bar & Lounge is one of four Manchester based restaurants voted by the public to represent the high standard of Asian cuisine in the city.

Over the course of April, all four restaurants will be visited incognito by independent judges these scores will account for 50% of the city's overall result.

The remaining 50% will come from a written submission by the city council denoting why Manchester should claim the title of 'curry capital'.

Established in 2000, the competition is sponsored by Kingfisher lager and previous winners include Glasgow and Birmingham. Bradford claimed the title in 2005.

Since its launch last summer the Pearl has grown to become one of Manchester's premier Asian restaurants. Based in Ashton Under Lyne, the restaurant serves a unique range of cuisine from across the Far East including India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

In a bid to impress the competition's organisers and as part of the run-up to the event, the restaurant will be holding a series of charity events to raise money for the competition's chosen charity, 'Action Against Hunger'. Events will include curry kareoke, hand reading, round the bill, a benefit night and a raffle.
