Celebrity broadcaster, journalist and raconteur Hardeep Singh
Kohli is set to fulfil a childhood pact with his cousin, well-known
entrepreneur Sanjay Majhu, to embark on a unique joint venture
combining cooking with comedy with the launch of a forthcoming series
of events at Ashoka at The Mill on Glasgow's southside.
It might have taken the best part of 30 years to realise, but the
pact they made as two little boys in Bishopbriggs in the early 1980s
will finally come to fruition this summer when Hardeep and Sanjay get
together to launch the food-centred celebrity entertainment events on
26 and 27 June and 3 and 4 July.
Both Hardeep and Sanjay have come a long way since they were two
little boys - though the love of Indian cuisine has played a central
role in both their successful careers.
Whilst Hardeep has gone on to carve out a successful career as a
broadcaster, journalist and raconteur, including becoming a household
name on BBC1's One show, Sanjay rose from being a humble waiter to
Chief Executive Officer of Apple Harlequin Group, the largest chain
of Indian restaurants in Britain with 16 restaurants selling 10,000
curries a week.
Hardeep, currently touring Britain to sold-out venues with his 'The
Nearly Naked Chef' tour, said, "It was whilst enjoying a family
curry one Saturday as kids that Sanjay and I made a vow to each other
that, one day, we'd work together on a joint venture that combined
our love of cooking and comedy. It might have taken us longer than
we'd planned but, at last, we're realising that dream with the launch
of these cookery classes at Ashoka!
"Being a runner-up in the original series of Master Chef really
rekindled my love for cooking and it was then that I remembered my
childhood pact with Sanjay. I called him up out of the blue a month
or so ago and, fortunately, he remembered our pact and we came up
with the concept of cookery classes throughout the day followed by
comedy and entertainment over a delicious Indian meal in the evening."
Sanjay said, "It's not every day that you get a chance to fulfil
a childhood dream, so I'm really looking forward to getting together
with Hardeep to produce this unique series of events! Hardeep will
run his cookery classes for a select audience throughout the day -
and anyone who has been fortunate enough to have seen him live or on
TV will already know that he's an exceptional chef - and in the
evening he will present a show full of laughter and anecdotes
combined with a further mouth-watering cookery demonstration."
Reservations for The Ashoka Cookery Classes with 'The Nearly Naked
Chef' are limited to just 50 places with the £150 ticket
including admission to 'An Evening with Hardeep Singh Kohli'. Some
200 tickets to the evening's entertainment alone - priced at £30
including a delicious three course meal - are available online at
