Phoenix Rises But Without Shilpa

Mr Sattar's new Café India in Glasgow opened to wide acclaim recently but without the planned appearance of celebrity Shilpa Shetty.

The old Café India which unfortunately burnt down last year was the haunt of celebrities galore ranging from Michael Jackson and Keanu Reeves to Mel Gibson. General Manager Raj Bajwe thought Shilpa would be ideal for the new restaurant ; that is until he heard her price - £20,000 and a plane ticket for her mother, according to The Sun. "We couldn't believe it when we spoke to her manager." said Raj. Ms Shetty's agent confirmed that her fee for such appearances has risen from £10,000 to £20,000 as her popularity has grown as "she is not really keen on that sort of work" preferring to concentrate on film, music and her perfume.

Underterred, Café India opened at 29 Albion Street, Merchant City, Glasgow to reclaim its place at the very top in this curry-mad city.
