Four Arrested In Curry House Raid

Four illegal workers were arrested after immigration officials raided a curry house it was recently reported.

The four men, all from Bangladesh, were arrested after being found working illegally at Cinnamon Indian Cuisine on Keynsham High Street.Officers from the Border and Immigration Agency (BIA) carried out an intelligence-led operation targeting the Indian restaurant on Wednesday, August 15.

The men were all detained and taken to Trinity Road police station in Bristol, for questioning. They have since been released but have to report to the police on a regular basis while their case is dealt with by the BIA.

Following the raid, the restaurant has been handed a formal written warning which cautions them about employing illegal immigrants.

The BIA said it was not linking the raid to an incident in July when 30 illegal immigrants were seen jumping out of a lorry at traffic lights in Widcombe.

BIA regional director for Wales and the South West, Jane Farleigh, said illegal working in the region would not be tolerated.

Speaking after the Keynsham raid, she said: "This is an example of the regular operations carried out across the region by my officers to tackle illegal working.

"Illegal working hurts good business, undercuts legal workers, creates illegal profits and puts those employed at risk.

"We are committed to detecting people working illegally and our teams are focused on gathering intelligence and acting on it to ensure the UK's laws are not abused."
