Thai King awarded World Food Prize

 

 

Thailand's King Bhumibol Adulyadej received the World Food Prize recently for his tireless efforts to ensure the security of food supplies for needy people around the world.

His Majesty the King granted an audience to former Iowa governor Robert Ray at Chitralada Palace in Bangkok. The World Food Prize Foundation representative presented the monarch with the Dr. Norman E. Borlaug Medallion.

The king became the first Southeast Asian leader to receive the award, a special honour reserved for heads of state and international leaders for their great contributions to feeding people and enhancing human life.

The World Food Prize Council of Advisors includes former US Presidents George Bush and Jimmy Carter, Senator Elizabeth Dole, former Philippine President Corazon Aquino.
