London's
East End will be transformed yet again into the World's Chilli Crab
capital with more chilli, more crabs and more Tiger Beer
The Tiger
Beer Singapore Chilli Crab Festival returns to London's Truman
Brewery in Brick Lane for the third consecutive year on Saturday 30th
August and Sunday 31st August. Even bigger and better than last year,
the festival will transform London's East End into a Singaporean
oasis full to the brim with exotic tastes, smells and sounds of the
Far East. With plenty of Singaporean cuisine to sample, including the
world famous Chilli Crab, it is the food festival not to be missed!
The festival
celebrates the crowning joy of Singapore, the Chilli Crab, which is
Singapore's unofficial national dish. Drenched in a fresh tomato and
chilli-based sauce, Chilli Crab is best enjoyed using fingers so you
can prize out the succulent meat in the crab claws. There will be
plenty of Chilli Crab on offer at the festival along with an array of
other traditional Singaporean dishes which will get tastebuds
tingling including Chicken satay, Char Kway Teow (a delicious rice
noodle dish) and Hainanese Chicken Rice.
All of the
food at the festival will be prepared by Bayswater based Singaporean
restaurant Kiasu, which since opening in 2006 has received
outstanding reviews from many national newspapers and food critics.
2008 will
also see the return of celebrity chef, Terry Tan, who will be holding
live cooking demonstrations at the festival throughout the weekend.
He will be taking visitors through the process of cooking delicious
Far Eastern food and giving tips and advice on cooking the dishes at home.
To accompany
all the delicious food will be a live entertainment line-up
throughout the weekend, including dragon dancing, martial arts
displays and skillful musicians from the School of Oriental and
African Studies (SOAS). There will also be a henna-tattoo artist,
massage therapist and calligrapher to keep you entertained. Another
first for the festival is a tea-stretching spectacular, where Chinese
tea is poured dramatically from great heights to enhance the flavour.
A selection
of market stalls will also be at the festival offering authentic food
produce and intricate arts and crafts. The products on offer will
make the perfect memento for your day out.
Divya
Panickar, Singapore Tourism Board, says: "We are pleased to
bring to Brick Lane the sights, sounds and tastes of unique
Singapore. Year on year, the Tiger Beer Singapore Chilli Crab
Festival has become more exciting, and this year will be even better!"
Steven
Greaves, Tiger Beer, says: "Last year's Tiger Beer Singapore
Chilli Crab Festival was a huge success and saw thousands of people
enjoy a true flavour of the real Singapore. This year it will be even
better, with a brand new programme of entertainment and maybe even a
few surprises! It's a great way for people to experience Singapore
culture and, of course, take the opportunity to enjoy a perfectly
chilled Tiger Beer on a hot summer's afternoon - an ideal
accompaniment to the spicy chilli crab!"
