Oyster Sauce
Reaches Its 120th Birthday

Lee Kum Kee was founded in 1888 in Nam Shui, Southern China, by restaurateur Mr Lee Kam Sheung, following his creation of Oyster Sauce - one of the most used sauces in any Chinese kitchen today.

- Lee Kum Kee is privately owned by the Lee family and headquartered in Hong Kong SAR, China. The company has manufacturing facilities in China, USA and Malaysia and a further office in London.

- Lee Kum Kee is recognised as the inventor of Oyster Sauce, is one of China's leading Soy Sauce brewers and is a Chinese sauce brand leader across Hong Kong, Asia and Chinese communities around the world.

- Lee Kum Kee's office in London is responsible for the business's development across the UK and Europe, operating in consumer, foodservice and industrial trade channels in both Mainstream and Traditional (Chinese community) markets. .

Oyster Sauce is one of the most popular sauces in any Chinese kitchen, used by generations of Cantonese chefs and in homes throughout the world to create great tasting Chinese food. A quality Oyster Sauce is rich in oyster extract, adding flavour and enhancing the appearance of food. Traditionally used as a marinade, a general seasoning ingredient in stir-fries and general cooking, or even as a side-of-plate condiment or dip, the versatility of Oyster Sauce is just one of the reasons for it's vast use in Chinese cuisine.

Mr Lee established the Lee Kum Kee company in 1888 to produce and sell his creation, a sauce which he discovered completely by accident after one day inexplicably leaving a pot of oysters cooking for too long, which resulted in a thick brownish sauce. The sauce's rich aroma and strong oyster flavour proved so popular with the restaurant's customers that requests poured in for this new creation.

Already a leading brand used in Chinese kitchens throughout the world, UK households can now discover the original Lee Kum Kee Oyster Flavoured Sauce for themselves with its launch into Waitrose stores across the country. It will be difficult to miss the bottle with its beautifully designed label which shows a traditionally crafted piece of Chinese artwork specially commissioned by Lee Kum Kee.

Lee Kum Kee Premium Brand Oyster Flavoured Sauce will bring a delicious flavour and aroma to any vegetable, meat or fish dish. For a healthy, delicious Chinese meal in minutes, heat some groundnut oil in a wok or large frying pan, sauté a finely sliced onion with two cloves of crushed garlic, add 400g thinly sliced strips of lean beef and 3tbsp of Lee Kum Kee Oyster Flavoured Sauce, stir-frying for 2 minutes. Season and serve with rice, noodles or green vegetables.
