The
Spice Indian Restaurant - one of Dundee's busiest - was wrecked in
the blaze which started at around 1am.
Five fire
engines were called to the blaze, in Broughty Ferry, after police
spotted flames coming from the roof. Around 30 firefighters took more
than three hours to bring the inferno under control.
The first
floor and roof of the restaurant, on Erskine Street, were completely
destroyed. Three adjoining buildings, including a bar and another
restaurant, were also severely damaged.
Tayside
Police said it was too early to determine the cause of the fire but
confirmed they will carry out a joint investigation with Tayside Fire
and Rescue.
A spokesman
added: "At 3am, the fire was still burning within the roof of
the building and locals were advised to stay indoors."
In Aviemore,
Inverness-shire, firefighters tackled a blaze at the Snow Mountain
Chinese restaurant, which broke out around 2.30am. Police said the
fire was contained by 4.30am but caused extensive damage.
