20th Birthday For L'Incontro   L'Incontro, the Italian restaurant on Pimlico Road, is celebrating its 20th anniversary in January 2008. Opened by legendary London restaurateur, Gino Santin, it is now owned by his daughter Charlotte and her husband Cristiano Chiarin. Cristiano and Charlotte have put their own stamp on the restaurant with redecoration and a distinctive Venetian slant to the menu and L'Incontro is still a mainstay of Chelsea life with a loyal local clientele as well as the ever evolving international residents, the shopping and theatre crowds of Sloane Square and businesses in the area. No wonder when you have experienced the fine food and wine on the menu. Certainly many of the celebrity visitors have returned more than once. What better recommendation could there be than Robert de Niro, Al Pacino, Bernardo Bertolucci, Franco Zefferelli and Valentino who have all enjoyed a plate or two of pasta here. Over the years the restaurant has attracted stars of music, theatre, film, politics and sport. Recently, Condoleezza Rice turned up for dinner escorted by fifteen burly FBI men which caused a stir in the usually low key environs of Pimlico Road. Charlotte and Cristiano are looking forward to another twenty years of fine food and good company. "The challenge is to stay fresh, but maintain a consistency of quality so that clients enjoy new dishes and appreciate the familiarity at the same time."
