Taiko
Foods, makers of exquisite sushi, are launching Sushi Matsuri - a
festival of Japanese cuisine - and are asking for Japanese
restaurants up and down the country to take part.
The
event, sponsored by Hilton Group, Japanese Airlines, JETRO, Asahi
and the Japanese National Tourist Organisation, takes advantage of
the explosion of interest in Japanese food and takes place from 1st
to 15th February 2008.
For
that two week period there will be in-store promotions, competitions
and a PR campaign enticing the public into trying Japanese food, and
Taiko Foods want Japanese and sushi restaurants to enlist for a free
point-of-sale pack including posters and tent cards for the bar or
restaurant tables.
Derek
Lewis, sales manager at Taiko Foods, explained: "We have
noticed that the Brits have gone sushi crazy and are more open to
trying Japanese these days, that is reflected in our sales figures as
well. A two-week festival where consumers are encouraged to try the
cuisine can only be a good move for the Japanese food industry."
Restaurants
could make more of the promotion by creating a special cocktail for
the event, or running a money-off scheme to drive customers through
the door.
