A
Taste Of Brazilian Bar Life
PebblePeanuts®
Original Japanese-Style Coated Peanuts From Brazil are
deliciously crunchy, dry-roasted, high-quality peanuts coated with a
thin wheat layer and a drop of soy sauce. |
With their origins in
the first wave of Japanese immigrants to Brazil, they are an
essential ingredient of the local beach life in Rio and the bustling
bar life in São Paulo. And now, following successful activity
at UK VIP events this summer, PebblePeanuts® are set to take the
UK by storm.
The UK snack food market
was worth more than £2bn in 2004 and the nut market over
£150m, growing at +3% a year. The peanut snack market is
dominated by just a handful of retailers with KP Nuts owning over a
60% market share. All of them are characterized by lack of innovation
and absence of a targeted premium-branded product.
A simple childhood
pleasure turned into a fully fledged brand business in 2005, when
Sven Petersen launched the brand in the UK. Sven has Danish and
German family roots, but most of his family come from the South of
Brazil, where he fell in love with 'Amendoim Tipo Japones', a local
peanut snack invented by Japanese immigrants in Brazil.
"The product is
already successful in that it is loved and consumed by 180 million
Brazilians," says Sven Petersen, Managing Director of
Cosmopolitanum Trading Company. "We have established a brand
vision for the product that we feel has the potential to propel it
into the circle of top-snack brands globally."
Top-end gastro pub
chain, Geronimo Inns have already agreed to stock the new
über-hip, Brazilian PebblePeanuts® across all of its 15 pubs
in London, including a new 180-seater site, The Tin Goose, at
Heathrow Terminal 1.
