Gill Opens Scotland House in Delhi
Entrepreneur
Charan Gill, MBE officially opened Scotland House in Delhi on 6th
February, his new venture aimed at encouraging and facilitating
business relationships between Scotland and India. |
Mr Gill hopes
that Scotland House will quickly establish itself as a bridge for
building relationships between the two countries - not only between
companies, but individuals and entrepreneurs wishing to expand their
horizons and forge new relationships.
He said, 'The
number of friends and associates who have been enquiring if I had any
business contacts in India has been growing to such an extent over
recent months that I felt that I had to do something to help
progressive Scottish companies exploit the massive commercial
opportunities available to them in India.
'The opening
of Scotland House marks the first step towards realising my desire to
build a bridge which will enable Scottish businesses to explore
markets which they currently find daunting.'
The opening
ceremony of Scotland House was attended by numerous delegates from
Scotland who were visiting Delhi on a trade mission organised by Jane
Martin of the Scottish Council for Development and Industry.
Mr Gill said,
'I am honoured by the SCDI's support for Scotland House. As can be
seen from its current trade mission to India, the SCDI is already
doing a fantastic job here and I hope to work closely with it, and
other organisations, to help foster business relationships between
Scotland and India.'
Amongst the
key areas which Mr Gill hopes to explore are investments into real
estate, including business parks, and the development of rural areas.
He also intends to work closely with Scottish colleges and
universities looking to attract Indian students to study in Scotland
and assist in the process of outsourcing services from Scotland to India.
Mr Gill's
inspiration for establishing Scotland House in Delhi was a recent
visit to Tallinn, Estonia, where friend and fellow Entrepreneurial
Board member John McGlynn had established a similar venture.
