A Manchester city centre restaurant has been devastated after fire ripped through the building causing more than £100,000 of damage.

Crisp, on Princess Street, was left in ruins after the blaze broke out in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The fire destroyed the basement bar and severely damaged the ground floor restaurant.

The independent Italian restaurant - opposite Manchester town hall - had been packed on Saturday night, but is thought to have been empty at the time of the fire with no casualties.

Firefighters described the restaurant as "devastated" by the fire and smoke damage and have estimated the repair bill at more than £100,000.
