Achieving a
coveted Michelin star is always a remarkable achievement, but even
more so for The Kitchin given that it only opened three months prior
to the Michelin's 2007 guide for Great Britain and Ireland going to
print and the fact that, at the age 29, Tom Kitchin is believed to be
one of the youngest chefs ever to win a Michelin star.
A delighted
Tom Kitchin, who runs The Kitchin with his wife Michaela, said,
"Gaining a Michelin star so quickly was beyond our wildest
dreams! This is a wonderful start for The Kitchin and a tribute to
all the hard work put in by everybody in the restaurant. Winning a
Michelin star is always a team effort and everyone at The Kitchin has
worked very hard since we opened."
Kitchin is
hoping that the accolade will now attract more diners to the
restaurant.
He said,
"There's no doubt that many people do travel by the Michelin
guide and use it to choose where to eat. I'm confident that this
Michelin star will help us fill the restaurant on Tuesdays and
Wednesdays. There's no greater accolade for a chef than to be
recognised by Michelin. Certainly, all the chefs in the restaurants
within which I've worked have really been driven by the Michelin
guide."
The legendary
chefs with whom Tom has worked in the past include the
Michelin-starred Pierre Koffmann, Guy Savoy and Alain Ducasse.
The Kitchin
only reopened recently after Tom and his wife Michaela took a break
for a delayed honeymoon. Tom said, "Last year was fantastic for
us. We achieved so much, but everything happened in a blur - so much
so that my wife Michaela and I had no time for a honeymoon after we
married last August. So January was a belated honeymoon for us.
Winning a Michelin star is simply the best possible news to come home
to!"
The Kitchin
features a menu emphasising the freshest, seasonal produce, locally
sourced wherever possible. "'From nature to plate' is how you
could sum up our philosophy," said Kitchin.
