Las Iguanas Take Latin Spirit To Capital Of The North

Las Iguanas, the largest independent Latin restaurant group in the UK, have fought off fierce competition and are opening their first Manchester site in the prestigious new development at The Trafford Centre.

Located in The Great Hall, the restaurant will have space for 140 diners as well as a bar and is set to open in March following a £600,000 investment by Las Iguanas.

It will also be the company's 12th site and follows hot on the heels of the openings at the Royal Festival Hall in London and the harbourside in Bristol.

However, it is the first time the company, which has been in operation for 15 years, will have a base in the Capital of the North as well as it being the only Las Iguanas based within a shopping development.

Director Ajith Jaya Wickrema, said: "We have been looking to set up in Manchester for sometime and looked at a number of interesting opportunities, however, when the chance to have a presence at The Trafford Centre came up we went all guns blazing to make sure we were in there.

"The standard of competition we were faced with was exceptionally high, so we're delighted to have been chosen and will be offering our unique Latin experience for shoppers needing a pick-me-up and diners who want to relax and take in the atmosphere."

The move is another testament to Las Iguanas ability to spot great business opportunities that fit the company profile. The first restaurant was started in Bristol by Ajith and business partner Eren Ali and now has a turnover of £12million.

At The Trafford Centre, The Great Hall - which is being transformed from what used to be the Place outside The Orient - has been created because of a growth in demand amongst customers who want to dine during their time at the famous shopping and entertainment facility.

This has been as true for people who are already there perusing the shops as it is for people who are going specifically to dine, something The Great Hall has been geared up to attract.

With it's capacious glazed structure, Chinese marble balustrades, sweeping staircase and five top class restaurants and cafes, there is no doubt this is a stand alone experience. This is especially true for a singular feature - a chandelier rumoured to be the biggest in the world.

Ajith said: "The concept for The Great Hall is an exciting and innovative one that we are really inspired by - as well as looking forward to seeing all these amazing plans come to fruition.

"Our own restaurants are always individually designed, although they have common colours and keep their Latin influence, they are contemporary and unique - there is no where else like Las Iguanas."

Las Iguanas, is also creating employment for at least 30 people through the restaurant and is set to be open during March.
