With over
400 events, East represents a unique collaboration between the Mayor
of London and key organisations, which between them have curated and
initiated all of the activities across five key areas - performance,
art, history, fashion and food.
There will be
activities taking place in and around Spitalfields, Brick Lane and
Whitechapel; St Paul's and the City; Hoxton and Clerkenwell; Dalston
and Hackney; Wapping and Docklands.
The aim is to
encourage Londoners and the capital's visitors to explore and
experience the breadth and diversity of what is on offer in this
unique part of the city, with activities ranging from full-scale live
performances and club nights, to Bangla rock and orchestral strings.
The festival will also include history and art tours, fashion talks,
makeovers and workshops, plus family activities. There will be
shopping, from second hand and vintage to cutting edge new design, as
well as a major food festival (Taste East).
Partner
organisations include: Museum of London; Whitechapel Gallery;
Barbican; Serious; Rich Mix; New Spitalfields market; Old
Spitalfields market; Fashion East; Old Truman Brewery; and Artsadmin.
East runs from Thursday 1 to Tuesday 6 March.
