Curry Queen 'Astonished' At Foreign Worker Raids

TOP businesswoman Nighat Awan was said to be `astonished' recently after immigration raids involving her chain of curry restaurants led to 70 arrests nationwide.

Seven men were arrested at Cheshire Oaks as police and immigration officials swooped on the local Shere Khan branch.

The award-winning entrepreneur watched as officials searched her £3.5m Hale Barns home as part of their investigation into her Shere Khan empire.

Simultaneous swoops were carried out by police and Immigration Service officers at other restaurants and premises linked to the Shere Khan group across Britain.

The Shere Khan troubles continued when husband Rafique Awan was arrested a week or so later on suspicion of conspiracy to facilitate illegal immigration and released on bail pending further inquiries.
