Café
Rasoi in Heathfield, has raised over £2500 for the Bangladesh
Cyclone Appeal by holding their very popular live music evenings on
Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7th February. Numbers were limited and
hence tickets are always sought after. Each night was booked up, with
everyone enjoying themselves immensely.
The special 3 course meal was
very well received and the music from the ever popular Joolz Gianni
left everyone praising his undoubted talents. Joolz was also
accompanied by local singer and songwriter, Felicity Evans who with a
wide range of song choices left her audience very appreciative and
demanding more.
Shah Athar would not only like to
thank the musicians, but all the customers that attended this special
event, without whom, this fantastic sum of money would not be raised.
The money raised will be pooled together with other fundraising
efforts from all the other local restaurants that held their special
evenings the previous week and with the Bangladesh Welfare
Association of Tunbridge Wells. This money will be used to alleviate
the suffering caused by one of the worst Cyclones to hit the region.
It will help rebuild peoples' lives and their livelihoods.
"We consider ourselves
quite lucky to live where we are and we should always help those that
are less fortunate" he said.
If this was not enough, a few
days later pupils from years 5 and 6 of a local school were spicing
up their curryculum with an Indian Cookery workshop by Shah Athar.
Pupils were treated to a cooking demonstration at Café Rasoi
(including the kitchen) where the children enjoyed not only
understanding the spices used but also getting 'hands on' making
samosas and chapaties.
Deputy head teacher Jenny Swan
said "It's wonderful because the children get to see how the
Indian food is prepared and they get to cook it and taste it. It's
amazing when they cook it themselves, just how much
they appreciate it."
