Jamie Oliver Restaurant Kitchen Combines Good Looks With Fire Safety

Television chef Jamie Oliver's new restaurant based in Kingston-upon-Thames is very special. Based in a former office block, it will serve traditional Italian food at affordable prices with a range of pasta dishes, a selection of fresh breads, antipasti, salads, grills and Italian desserts. Doesn't sound that special you might be thinking, other than the fact that this Italian bistro bases its dishes on recipes from his popular cookbooks.

However, it's behind front of house that makes this restaurant so special. Like all commercial restaurants, a critical success factor is the design and the look of the kitchen. In this case the stainless steel environment was designed to provide both functionality and good looks - giving the restaurant staff a kitchen to be proud of. Not surprisingly, having designed the kitchen, the catering specialists didn't then want to compromise the look of it by fitting a fire suppression system that jarred with the aesthetics. Some systems require pipework to be more obvious and design requirements mean they cannot be hidden away while nozzles protrude and much of the system is manufactured in copper or brass plating, not stainless steel.

Research showed that Nobel Fire Systems K-Series would meet all the aesthetic qualities required, and that the Company already had an enviable reputation for product efficiency and levels of service within the catering industry. Another positive as far as the commissioning team were concerned was the fact that the chosen fire suppression system could be fitted quickly and efficiently by one of Nobel Fire Systems installation teams.

The Nobel Fire Systems K-Series is now in many of the UK's and European leading commercial kitchens, underlining its ability to provide the right fire suppression answers to the most challenging situations. As in the case of Jamie Oliver's new restaurant, the K-Series fire protection systems are engineered to meet the specific individual requirements of the kitchen being protected.

Every system is designed following a comprehensive risk assessment taking into account the requirement of successful fire suppression and a client's interruption potential.

Commercial Director of Nobel Fire Systems, Ben Parker commented. "The flexibility of our K-Series system in terms of meeting the aesthetic challenges posed by the catering specialists really came through in this project. Not only that, the restaurant kitchen is now protected by a system that has proved its effectiveness in commercial kitchen environments throughout Europe. We are delighted to have been a part of this exciting development".
