Did you hear the one about the entrepreneur who fancied himself as a
comic? He loved his slot under the spotlight as a stand-up so much
that he decided to open up his own comedy club! It might sound like a
funny business but it's no joke.
The entrepreneur is Curry King Charan Gill MBE and, following his
live stand-up debut last year, this month sees the start of a regular
weekly Slumdog Stand-up slot every Thursday night at the bustling
Slumdog Bar & Kitchen on Sauchiehall Street.
And it looks like the Secret Millionaire has already struck gold with
his latest venture because tickets for the first two Slumdog
Stand-ups - on Thursday 28th January and Thursday 4th February - were
sold out!
Charan said, "Glasgow punters love a curry and a good laugh and
our Slumdog Stand-up evenings aim to give them the makings of a great
night out under the one roof.
"And as well as appealing to family get-togethers, birthday
parties and groups of friends meeting up on a night out, our early
bookings show that businesses recognise the attraction of the Slumdog
Stand-up as a cost-effective way to treat and entertain their staff."
The quartet of comedians appearing on the bill at the first Slumdog
Stand-up were: Des Clarke; Keir McAllister; Scott Agnew and host
Chris Broomfield. And, who knows, Charan himself might be tempted to
storm the stage, grab the mic and fire off a few one-liners himself
to relive his own stand-up routine on some future occasion!
Slumdog is located at 410 Sauchiehall Street. Log onto
