Typically,
the stand alone battery operated NO SMOKING monitor (NSM 1) detects a
20mm cigarette lighter flame at 6 metres in one second! Due to smoke
moving in unpredictable directions, these units respond much quicker
by detecting flame and not smoke.
On detecting
the flame, the NSM 1 announces in a polite but commanding female voice:
WE WISH TO
REMIND YOU THAT THIS IS A NO SMOKING AREA, PLEASE EXTINGUISH ALL TOBACCO.
Due to the
sensitivity and speed of response, we believe these NO SMOKING
monitors will greatly assist pubs, restaurants and other
organisations in obtaining the cooperation of the general public.
Already in use
with over thirty NHS Hospitals and other users, these polite
reminders will assist licensees and managers in avoiding fines of up
to £2,500 when the new no smoking regulations come in to force
in England on 1st July 2007.
