Disgruntled Diners Name Dirty Glasses Their Biggest Bugbear

DIRTY glasses have been named the biggest bugbear of diners in the UK.

Luigi Spotorno, expert table dresser and author of Luigi's Language of Napkin Folding, asked 500 diners what annoyed them most about dining in restaurants. Dirty glasses came top, with compulsory service charges following closely behind.

The top five bugbears in order, are:

1. Dirty glasses

2. Compulsory service charges

3. Overfriendly waiting staff

4. People talking loudly on other tables

5. Music that's too loud

Luigi Spotorno, says:

"I've been in catering for 35 years and it's always the same things that annoy diners in restaurants. All too often you go into a nice restaurant for a meal and the experience is spoilt by dirty glasses or crockery and a poorly laid out table. There's simply no excuse for sloppy table presentation.

"Adding a compulsory table charge also quite rightly annoyed diners. The practice means that waiters and waitresses don't need to work their hardest as their tip is guaranteed."
