A massive
blaze destroyed a popular Indian restaurant in Glasgow recently when
it went up in flames as staff worked in the kitchen at about noon.
More than 30
firefighters rushed to The Ashoka in Kirkintilloch, near Glasgow, and
were still trying to extinguish the flames when night fell.
The Ashoka is
part of the Harlequin Indian Restaurants group, owned by Sanjay
Majhu, which include the Ashoka West End and Mister Singh's India.
A fire service
spokesman said five regular and two high-reach engines from
Kirkintilloch and nearby Bishopbriggs tackled the blaze. Crews found
a "well developed" fire in the restaurant's kitchen and
roof space.
The cause was
being investigated by firefighters and police, who said there had
been no casualties.
Restaurant
boss Mickey Singh said: "I am absolutely devastated. Everyone
who knows me knows I am a reputable person and that this was not deliberate."
It is the
second Indian restaurant to burn down in two weeks with Cafe India in
Glasgow's Charing Cross burning down on December 18.
