Curry
chefs from Vale Royal had their culinary and hygiene skills tested at
a sizzling competition recently.
Six restaurants and takeaways
from across the borough went head to head at the Rice and Spice
competition, hosted by Mid-Cheshire College, producing some amazing
dishes in the one-hour time limit.
The Bengal Dynasty, Eastern
Balti, Eastern Spice, Frodsham Tandoori, Greenbank Balti and
Millenium Balti were represented after successfully completing a
pre-competition food safety check up by environmental heath inspector
Jackie Rogers. She said: "The cooking standards we've seen
are reflected in increased hygiene levels in restaurants."
Clr Malcolm Byram was joined by
Mid Cheshire College's chef instructor David Wootton and
environmental health boss Rupert Adams.
Winner of the seventh annual Rice
and Spice competition was Shelim Kamali of Eastern Balti, in
Weaverham. Choosing to cook his favourite dishes for the judges, his
vegetable bhaji was a hit.
Frodsham Tandoori's Shahid Meah
also took the personal approach by cooking a delicious chicken dish
that his mother used to cook when he was a child.
Jackie Rogers said: "300
catering businesses have now passed through Vale Royal's written
safety workshops in the last 12 months resulting in excellent
standards in the industry locally. I'm delighted with the quality of
the food and the enthusiasm of the participants here today."
