British
Curries Are Hot Favourites For India
|
Whether
hot, mild, creamy or dry, curry is claimed to be the UK's national
food. Curry now supposedly outsells even fish and chips. Simply put,
it's Britain's national cuisine. Now, the great British curry is
being exported to the Indian sub-continent.
Some of the
UK's best Indian cooks will be taking their English dishes to India
and Bangladesh for the third International British Fusion Food
Festival on Aug 26-29 and Sept 1-4, 2006.
Two of
countries¹ top hotels will host the one-week festival in the
cities of Kolkata (India) and Dhaka (Bangladesh) giving diners a
chance to tuck into the very best that British Asian chefs have to offer.
Some of last
year¹s more popular dishes included an Indian interpretation of
the humble Yorkshire pudding and British invention of Chicken Tikka Masala.
Festival
Director Syed Belal Ahmed said: "For many years British food has
been the butt of too many jokes. But, in recent years there has been
a renaissance in the British food industry. There has been a
tremendous growth of the multi billion pound 'curry industry' which
has restaurants and takeaways in every major British city and town.
"The
British Fusion Food Festival is a vital part of Curry Life's strategy
to promote the presentational, artistic and culinary skills of
British Asian Chefs and their leadership role in the evolution of
curry to meet the demands of the increasingly discerning tastes of
British food enthusiasts, " he added.
This year's
showcase chefs are Partha Mittra from the Bengal Dynasty
(Flintshire), Jamal Uddin Ahmed from Shozna (Kent), Oli Khan from
Surma (Stevenage) and Syed Zohorul Islam from Capital (County Durham).
The chefs were
selected through an earlier competition called Chef Idols, which
sought out the best Indian cooks in the UK.
The event has
been organised by Curry Life, the trade magazine for Indian
restaurateurs in the UK. Sponsors include Bangla Beer, Channel S,
SEAMARK, Redfort, Aerolex UK Ltd and Al Islah Cash and Carry. The
Dhaka Sheraton Hotel (Bangladesh) and The ITC Sonar Bangla Sheraton
Hotel & Towers, Kolkata (India) would be the festival host & organisers.
