A Taste of Lebanon in London's East End

Tucked away in the heart of Brick Lane and a stone's throw from the City, new restaurant addition Lebanese Lounge (Hanbury Street, E1), offers mouth watering Lebanese dishes to satisfy customers' appetites away from the hustle and bustle outside.

Delicious traditional dishes and Arabian hospitality are the order of the day with delicious mezza, grilled meat and fish and traditional salads. Served in a large, simply designed dining room with ambient lighting, the emphasis is on the quality of the food and owners Shah Hasan and Habib Zaiour want to bring a real taste of Lebanon to the area.

Lebanese food combines the sophistication and subtleties of European cuisines with the exotic ingredients of the Middle and Far East. With the focus less on sauces and more on herbs, spices and the freshness of the ingredients, the dishes are, in the main, very healthy with little animal fat used and olive oil being the cooking oil of choice. The desserts also rarely have butter or cream.

The cold mezza options are great for dining during these hot summer days and nights and are perfect for sharing. Moutabal Baba Ghanouj (grilled aubergine puree mixed with sesame paste (tahine) and lemon juice), £3.50, Wark Inab B'zeit (vine leaves filled with rice, tomato, parsley, mint and onion, cooked in lemon juice and olive oil), £3.50 and Mouhamara (mixed Mediterranean spicy nuts with olive oil), £4 are just some of the delicious mezza dishes on offer.

Charcoal grilled skewers of lamb and chicken are available as well as fresh fish and prawns. The Sea Bass (fresh Sea Bass seasoned and deep fried or grilled, served with tahine sauce (tarator)), £15 is a firm favourite.

The tasty salads will complement any meal whether a simple Tomato and Onion Salad (fresh tomato with finely chopped parsley, onion and mint) or a Spicy Lebanese Salad (lettuce, tomato, cucumber, parsley, mint, onion, chopped green chilli and fine Lebanese spices with lemon and olive oil dressing), both priced £3.50.

Lebanese Lounge also offers a lunch promotion between 12pm and 5pm in which diners can choose a mezza and a main dish for just £9.90.

The restaurant also boasts the Shisha Lounge, an Arabic lounge offering comfortable couches and cushions in which to sip on mint tea, served on tradition tea sets, and to enjoy flavoured Shisha pipes. The menu's mezza dishes can also be ordered from this space. The intimate interior with its warm colours is the perfect place to relax with friends and colleagues and can be pre-booked to seat up to 30 people for a private party.

A great choice for private functions, Lebanese Lounge can cater for up to 200 people and Belly Dancers are available upon request to make the night an even more authentic Arabian adventure. Delivery and outside catering are also available for customers to enjoy at work or home.

With friendly service, fantastic traditional dishes and Shisha Lounge, Lebanese Lounge proves that Brick Lane is not just a curry haven.
