One of the
fun features of National Curry Week 21-27 October this year will be a
shoot-out between top chefs who reckon they are the fastest with a
tandoor in the UK.
Already the
challenge has gone out from Gulu Anand of Brilliant who feels his
tandoor man is a world beater and Enam Ali of Le Raj was quick to
accept, with several others lined up to celebrate 60 years since the
introduction of the tandoor to restaurants.
The week,
which is held in aid of Oxfam, starts of with :
Super
Sunday : Try one of the hundreds of fantastic Sunday
buffets around the country or be one of the lucky few to attend The
3rd British Curry Awards in London.
Make
it Monday : The day for those that cannot get to a
restaurant to get out to the supermarket and get those all important
ingredients for a wonderful curry at home.
Tasting
Tuesday . Time to let those tastebuds roam. Try a dish
you haven't tried before or sample Cono Sur Chilean wines at selected
restaurants or Cobra if beer is your tipple.
Wicked
Wednesday : Midweek. Time to overindulge. Try a dish that
is rich and wicked - have a extra glass of wine or perhaps a little
something after the meal - after all some say curry is an aphrodisiac!
Tandoor
Thursday : Celebrate 60 years of the tandoor at your
favourite restaurant
Fantastic
Friday : Time to get your friends together a celebrate
the end of the working week with a comforting curry.
See
You Saturday : Your last chance to visit your local curry
house and lend your support or perhaps push the boat at and join us
at Novotel London West for the Bollywood or Ballgowns Grand Charity
Ball. See You There! Tickets, priced at £110 + VAT (Special bulk
discount £1,000 +VAT for a table of 10) available from Menu
Publications Ltd, Box 416, Surbiton, Surrey, KT1 9BJ.
And don't
forget the £1 per person (or more of you wish) for Oxfam to help
those less fortunate than ourselves. You can make a real difference
even with such a small amount - less than
the cost of two poppadoms.
For the first
time ever national Curry Week has a pool of sponsors rather than just
one overall which all adds to the spice and variety of what promises
to be a fantastic event.
