Taste of London

The flagship Taste Festival was swamped with over 50,000 visitors coming along to taste treats from over 50 of London's top restaurants. With 13 Michelin stars in one place, visitors were spoiled with a selection of 150 sample-sized signature dishes cooked by some of the most famous chefs in the world. Michel Roux Jr's daube de bouef a l'ancienne was one huge hit and the happy faces leaving Andy Lasseter's Cocoon just kept on coming which was hardly surprising with his amazing wagyu beef on hot rocks on the menu.

The weather just about held throughout Thursday, Friday and Saturday but on Sunday we got that Glastonbury feeling helped along by the team from Ronnie Scotts, who were singing in the rain.

Amongst the restaurants present were Benares, Tamarind, Café Spice, Cinnamon Club Carluccio's, Fino and Awana. International stars filled the timetable in The Times Chefs' Theatre with shows from Aldo Zilli, Antony Worrall Thompson and Gary Rhodes while visitors got to try their own hand in the Alessi Cookery School.

Malaysian food hits the spot

At an event that saw more exhibitors than ever before, one of the most enjoyable was the Malaysian Pavilion promoting Malaysia Kitchen. Very similar to the plans to promote Thai cuisine, Malaysia intends to set up a network of Malaysian restaurants around the world to promote their culture and wide array of cooking styles and traditions.

A culinary tour of Malaysia is just the thing to spark those jaded appetites anew with wonderful beaches, fantastic sights and a wonderful cuisine. Beef Rendang could one day take over from Chicken Tikka Masala in popularity such is its fantastic taste and Nonya Fried Rice must be tried. If the succulent Chicken Satay supplied by Awana is anything to go by Malaysian cuisine is in for a boom in UK.
