The Aroma
Group of restaurants has opened its 'Alisan', a flagship
establishment, offering Dim Sum and fine Chinese cuisine, adjacent to
Wembley Stadium and Wembley Arena.
Alisan's Head
Chef in Alisan, Yip Liang, was formerly at the five star Sheraton
Subang Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He was a chef at The Emperor
Restaurant in Sheraton Subang Hotel which won the "Best
Restaurant in Malaysia - Oriental Cuisine (Chinese)" award from
WA MEDIA Gold Awards for 2001/2002, an award from Malaysia's Tatler
Magazine as one of Malaysia's finest restaurants by the leading
gourmet guide, Malaysia's Best Restaurants 2000 and the Best Chinese
Cuisine Restaurant Award 1998/1999 from Tourism Malaysia.
Alisan's dim
sum department is headed by Bao Chen and Seng Chow. Both Chen and
Chow are ex-Hakkasan dim sum chefs and trained under Hakkasan's Dim
Sum Consultant, Choong.
The name
Alisan is taken from of a mountain in Taiwan made famous in an old
Mandarin folksong. The song is about the aboriginal women living on
Alisan mountain being very beautiful. The word "san" means
mountain or hill in Chinese. The letters "LIS" in the
ALISAN logo form the Chinese character for mountain.
Signature
dishes are: Scallop Shumai a dim sum with scallops and minced prawns
wrapped in a thin pastry and steamed, then topped with fish roe.
Baked Silver Cod in Rose Wine Sauce a Japanese silver cod fillet
steak marinated in champagne and lemon baked in the oven then topped
with rose wine sauce. Venison Strips in Black Pepper & Garlic
marinated tender strips of venison stir fried with black pepper and
garlic giving a very slight spicy flavour. Mango and Grapefruit
Tapioca Pearl small cubes of mango and pieces of grapefruit with sago
in mango juice served chilled.
The
split-level establishment seats up to 200 on the ground floor. The
first floor features a cocktail lounge, with 30' ceiling, sofa
seating, serving drinks and snacks. The restaurant's décor was
created by Quadrant Design, whose brief was to transform the modern,
glazed unit into a dramatic, intimate and sophisticated restaurant
and bar. The prestigious location, opposite the new Wembley Stadium
complex, meant a bold, contemporary feeling was needed for the
project. Key design points were an original and creative scheme,
drawing inspiration from the Alisan Mountain in Taiwan; traditional
Chinese patterns hint towards the Oriental whilst a contemporary
colour scheme of blues, purples and pinks create drama and ambience.
A variety of lighting from fibre optic, LED and carbon filament
create intimacy and mood. Textures from wood, steel, leather and
acrylic add a luxurious richness.
A discrete
function room is available for private hire, complete with karaoke
facilities with over 20,000 stored tunes.
Commenting on
the new opening, which is directly opposite of the new Wembley
stadium, Aroma Director Colin Wong said, "The area deserves a
first rate modern Chinese restaurant offing fine dining and good dim sum."
