Fresh Eggs Don't Float By Lara DePetrillo and Caroline Eastman-Bridges
Published by Piatkus 20 November 2008 £9.99 Hardback
Are you tired of getting cooking tips from people who can't even remember what it's like to need them?
Celebrity chefs are so used to working in professional kitchens that they often forget how to make their recipes accessible for those of us cooking at home. They can tell you how to bake a better pie ¯ but will they remember to tell you that if you have cheap or old tins, you have to line them with baking paper to get the pie out afterwards? Or that if your shellfish glows in the dark, this means that it is covered in photobacterium and isn't very fresh?
Fresh Eggs Don't Float removes all the intimidation from cooking and offers budding chefs and foodies a light-hearted, smart and funny approach to making delicious food from your own kitchen ¯ without fancy gadgets and over-complicated instructions. It provides superb recipes, amazing facts and invaluable tips.
What started as a novel way of keeping in touch became a new-found passion for the authors. With Lara in the UK and Caroline based in the USA, they decided to cook a new recipe every day for a whole year and share their experiences on their excellent blog www.cookbad.blogspot.com. Fresh Eggs Don't Float is their chance to now share what they have discovered with anyone who wants to make great food at home.

Cooking with my Indian mother-in-law
Mastering the art of authentic home cooking Simon Daley with Roshan Hirani Published by Pavilion, an imprint of Anova Books
" a wonderful collaboration - a faithful record of the instinctive cooking that goes on in a typical Indian household; an overdue celebration of the unsung skills of the home cook" Vivek Singh, Executive Chef at The Cinnamon Club
When keen, self-taught home cook Simon Daley tasted his future mother-in-law Roshan's chicken curry for the first time, he was smitten. It was a chicken curry like he'd never tasted before, and he knew he had to have the recipe - even if he had to marry Roshan's daughter to get it!
This unique book draws on the extensive repertoire of an exceptional home cook, including traditional dishes passed from mother to daughter over centuries - from the family's Gujerati roots in India to modern adaptations for life in England today.
Simon asked Roshan to teach him her vast personal collection of recipes, with Simon then attempting to cook the dishes himself. From there it was a natural progression of the two of them cooking together and sharing recipes. You will recognise some familiar names - tandoori chicken, chicken biriani, and samosas - as well as more unusual regional specialities such as stuffed chillies, savoury vegetable cake and a sweet mango lassi (yogurt drink).

With stunning modern photography of Simon and Roshan cooking at home, step-by-step sequences that illustrate over 100 foolproof recipes and unique flavours, this is authentic real Indian home cooking at its best!
The authors
Simon Daley is Roshan's son-in-law, who has worked as a designer and art director specializing in cookery books for over 10 years. He is a passionate home cook and extremely interested in the traditions and cultures of foods.

Roshan Hirani, has more than 50 years of experience and is well known in her community and neighbourhood as an outstanding cook. She is often called upon to provide food for religious and social occasions. Her chapatis are legendary.
