The Gulshan Is Transformed After Six-Figure-Sum Expansion

Aigburth restaurant gets major makeover for 2008

One of Liverpool's oldest and most popular Indian restaurants has been transformed as part of a major refurbishment.

Mustafa and Salina Rahman, owners of the Gulshan on Aigburth Road, have invested a six-figure sum into their business to create an additional fifty covers on the restaurant's newly opened first floor and transform the interior design throughout.

The original bar downstairs has been replaced, a spacious new reception area added and a substantial second drinks area built on the first floor.

"The Gulshan has been very successful thanks to our customers and we really wanted to give something back to them", said Mustafa Rahman, "In moving towards Capital of Culture year, we believed it was the perfect opportunity to totally renovate and expand the business, allowing the appearance of the restaurant to reflect the high standard of the food served."

For the past ten years, the Gulshan has featured in the prestigious Michelin Guide and has also been voted "Best in the North" twice in the Good Curry Guide. The restaurant, which was established in 1986 , has also been listed as one of the top 50 restaurants in the country by The Independent newspaper.

Mustafa added: "My father would be proud. He set up Liverpool's first Indian restaurant in the early 1960s. As a family business, we are committed to creating an exciting, brighter environment while still retaining the original Gulshan charm and atmosphere that has made this business so successful for such a long time."
