One of
East Lancashire's largest Indian restaurants is set to reopen its
doors after being taken over by new owners.
The
240-seater Shere Khan Restaurant building based at Eanam in Blackburn
town centre has been leased to the Mai'da Restaurant Group.
In March the
venue closed its doors just a year after opening in the former Audi
car showroom off the roundabout with Barbara Castle Way.
The new
bosses have signed a 20-year lease and will re-brand the venue under
the Mai'da name. It is their first venture into the North West.
The firm owns
an Indo-chinese restaurant in Bethnal Green Road in the East End of London.
Co-director
Mohammed Ali said they had been searching for a North West location
for some time.
"Since
opening our flagship London Restaurant we have had an over-whelming
response from customers. And it was always our intention to branch
out and open another restaurant in the north of England.
"This
opportunity came along at the right time."
Mr Ali said
they were hoping to open before the end of August.
He said:
"We are doing a lot of internal and external changes to the
building. Among other things we are looking to install heating and
air-conditioning to the upstairs banqueting suite.
"We
will be employing local people and our specialist chefs who have
helped make our London restaurant so successful."
The building
has been leased by the Adhan Group of companies which has aqcuired an
extensive array of commercial properties in the region in recent years.
Steven
Hurlstone, lettings manager for the company said: "There was
a lot of interest in the property after it became available both
locally and nationally.
"We
had inquires within days of the premises becoming available.
"But
we wanted to get the right company for this prime location.
"After
looking at all the options we went for a company that met our
standards and we believe, in Mai'da, we have made the right decision."
