Opera Dinners Are
A Feast For Four Senses

Bel Canto restaurant offers perfectly composed dining

A London restaurant is orchestrating opera to add a new dimension to dinner.

Diners well-versed in gourmet food and fine wines can now taste the ultimate feast of the senses at Bel Canto - with world-class opera singers completing the experience.

"Restaurants are used to tantalising the senses of sight, smell and taste," says Bel Canto owner Jean-Paul Maurel who has taken the concept even further.

"We stimulate diners by adding a fourth dimension - sound. There is new evidence that operatic music lowers the heart rate and blood pressure, making Bel Canto a healthier dining experience."

"Music also influences the taste of wine which is another way we provide guests with a more full-bodied taste sensation."

The Bel Canto experience is far from rushed, encouraging diners to savour their food and wine while enjoying the world-class opera singers.

"It is a complicated process but we believe we have created a masterpiece of a meal," says Maurel.

The talented serving staff at Bel Canto are trained opera singers who perform at specific times during the meal. Combining the right song with the best food and drink is crucial.

"The whole evening is a virtuoso performance," says Maurel, who also runs Bel Canto sister restaurants in Paris.

"Experiencing opera up-close is a unique experience, made more sensuous and memorable as part of a harmonious meal."

Following on from the success of Bel Canto in Paris, owner Jean-Paul Maurel has now brought his renowned opera dinners to London. Bel Canto London opened near Fenchurch Street at the end of 2008.
