Ferrari's
restaurant, in the vibrant south London suburb of Balham has
undergone a £100,000 conversion to the Locale brand, joining the
group's five other successful modern Italian restaurants in London.
The refurbishment
has been masterminded by respected designer Brigitte D'Angelo.
Previously a drinks industry marketing professional, D'Angelo began
to create interiors some 10 years ago.
Her first bar
design project was Chelsea's 'Apartment 195' bar for the now co-owner
of Locale, Douglas Smillie. When it opened, the opulent venue was
voted Evening Standard's Bar of the Year. D'Angelo's more recent
award-winning projects include the 'Start the Bus' bar in Bristol,
which was voted Bar Of The Year 2008 by 'Venue' magazine.
"With the
Locale Balham design we wanted to build on the strengths of the brand
but without treating each venue the same", D'Angelo says. "Ferraris
Balham is popular with locals and we wanted to make the venue more
comfortable and inviting in a bid to attract new customers, as well
as keeping existing diners happy."
Colours used in
Locale restaurants differ from venue to venue. Locale Balham will
feature Chocolate Vine, a delicious rich, deep colour to create
atmosphere within the bar area, along with textured wallpapers in
dark damson and contrasting pistachio green by Brian Yates.
Stylish yet
comfortable cocktail chairs in luxuriously tactile velvet cord, in
shades of damson and willow, will be set around rosewood tables.
Hanging lampshades in the bar area are hand-made in pleated damson
silk, with a gold taffeta lining to create a sensual atmosphere, and
the bar itself will be finished in cherry wood.
The main
restaurant area will feature upholstery in contrasting mulberry and
gold spot velvet fabric with walls in Rock, a tawny milk-chocolate
colour, while the exterior will be sympathetically re-branded to Locale.
