Stepping
out of the high street tandoori and into fine dining, but without the
large price tags, come Sesame, the newest restaurant in town.
There are many popular tandoori
restaurants in the Kingston/New Malden area but none quite like
Sesame. Sesame is in the running with Roz anna on Kingstone Hill with
the quality of dishes not found in many other ethnic restaurants.
First impressions are the key in
any industry and if the first sight of the modern and fascinating
décor is not enough to bring you coming back for more, then
the first taste of the food will.
On a hot, sticky evening, I was
particularly impressed by the wave of cool air conditioning that hit
me as we walked through the door, an aspect that many do not have or
do not use. |
Another thing that may be hard to
find anywhere else, is the atmosphere. The unique wall art of pebbles
and a colour changing panel, made me feel relaxed as intended and
with the efficient and friendly waiting staff, the perfect ambience
was created.
The two sections of the menu were
very impressive with a wide range of both Indian and Thai food to
choose from, however, to mix the two together would not be best as
the spicing and flavours are so different. We ordered various dishes
from the Indian section including the meat samosa, the Sonali fish
fry and the paneer pakora to start with Methi Murgh, Dal Gosht and
Lamb Xcuty as mains with tasty side orders of Palak Paneer and
Mushroom Bhaji.
The highlight of the meal, and an
indication that Sesame is somewhat different from its competitiors,
was the fish fry. Normally I am not a huge fan of fish, but the
Tilapia used in this dish is like no other and sold in all too few restaurants.
After battling through the
generous portions of lamb and chicken we were encouraged to try the
selection of traditional Indian desserts such as Shahi Turkra and
Gajon Halwa.
Sesame deserves recognition and
success not only due to its excellent food but also to the obvious
interest the staff and management have in serving and satisfying customers.
