Eating out has increased by 63% in 2010

Research by the UK's leading daily city deals website shows that eating out has increased by 63% in 2010 compared to 2009. Also, 42% admit to visiting the cinema more in 2010 than they ever have in previous years.

The UK's leading daily city deals website has conducted research of 1,371 people to discover if social habits of Brits have changed in the past twelve months. The study reveals that people across the UK eat out, visit the local pub, and attend the cinema more in 2010 than in 2009.

The research commissioned by group buying power website, www.Groupola.com, shows that there has been a 63% increase in people eating out compared to 2009. According to the results, 1 in 5 people, 21%, eat out every week, yet 74% claim to have only eaten out once a month last year.

When asked, 'why do you eat out more in 2010 than you did in 2009?' 62% admitted that they 'have more disposable income' while 16% eat out more because of money saving deals.

The results show that 58% of the 1,371 people asked have swapped eating in for dining out. Only 13% claim to 'order food in' more than eat out, and 19% say that their eating habits have not changed since 2009. 22% of those asked admit to dining out regularly.

83% of the respondents say they have visited the cinema 'more than ever' this year. Of those, 56% say it due to money saving deals available, while 9% feel films have 'improved' in 2010.

According to the study, a quarter of those polled, 23%, visit the local pub more in 2010 than they did 2009.

When asked 'Have you been more sociable in 2010 than you were in 2009?' almost half, 47% said they have. Of those who are more social, 28% say they have 'felt happier' than last year and 34% claim their finances have improved.

Mark Pearson, Managing Director of Groupola.com said,

"We commissioned this research because it was very well known that last year dining out started to fade out and ordering in started to increase. I was happy to see that people have started to eat in restaurants more now, it shows that we are all getting back on our feet financially."

He continues,

"I wasn't shocked to see the increase in cinema visits. The graphics in films are vastly improving; 3D alone will be dragging people off their sofas. Groupola.com is the only site of its kind; city deals are updated regularly and with the power of group buying, people can get fantastic deals for a fraction of the price."
